In June 2006 I will be taking part in the Three Peaks Yacht Race with team Abbeydale Moonshine.
The race involves 389 miles of difficult coastal sailing up the west coast of Britain from Barmouth in mid Wales
to Fort Willam in Scotland. Teams comprise of three sailors and two runners. Along the way, teams stop at
Caernarfon in North Wales where the runners scale Snowdon (1085m) and Whitehaven in the Lake District where
the runners take to bikes before climbing Sca Fell Pike (978m). The race finishes in Fort William with the
runners ascending Ben Nevis (1344m) and returning to the yacht, thus having climbed to the highest points in
Wales, England and Scotland.
All of the team have studied at the University of Sheffield in recent years, and we are thankful to the
local Abbeydale Brewery in Sheffield for their support. We will be sailing a Reflex 38 yacht skippered by
Ric Searle, ably assisted by Will Appleby and Jody Slater. I will be running the mountains with Colin Taylor.
More details on the team can be found on the
team's website.
The race starts from Barmouth at 2pm on Saturday 17th June. Live coverage will be provided online courtesy of
SleepMonsters on the
official race website.
We will also be racing for charity, and would be grateful if you are able to support us here. Our charity
is the National Osteoporosis Society. Osteoporosis will
at some time affect 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50. You can donate online using
Just Giving.
