My association with outdoor pursuits combined with competitive instincts has led me into the world of adventure racing (AR). For those who don't know, these are essentially a triathlon for the outdoors enthusiast. Generally, they will comprise of fell and trail running, mountain biking and canoeing, possibly with some other challenges or ropework sections included also. Navigation is essential in every stage. Some events may be continuous while in others there are breaks between stages. Most events are for teams (normally of four) although pairs and solo events also exist.
